During the tenure of Josh McDaniels-Dave Ziegler, the Raiders only made minimal changes. However, this offseason they focused on strengthening their offensive line with a few key moves, although they did not pursue a clear upgrade strategy.
The Raiders opted not to take advantage of the deep tackle class in this year’s draft, bypassing players like Taliese Fuaga, Amarius Mims, and Troy Fautanu at No. 13 to select Brock Bowers as the best available player. With Jermaine Eluemunor moving to New York, Las Vegas is preparing to promote Thayer Munford as the new starting right tackle.
After minicamp, ESPN.com’s Paul Gutierrez indicated that Munford, a former seventh-rounder, is likely to take over the starting role opposite Kolton Miller. Munford has shown promise, having impressed in limited playing time and garnering recognition for his performance in college, making him a compelling choice for the starting position.
In a confirmed move by Raiders’ offensive line coach James Clegg, Dylan Parham will switch from left to right guard, forming a partnership with Munford while opening up a spot for rookie Jackson Powers-Johnson on the left side. Powers-Johnson’s absence during the offseason program has allowed veterans like Cody Whitehair and Andrus Peat to step in and provide support.
With a focus on keeping Miller healthy, the Raiders are looking to utilize the experience and versatility of players like Peat and Whitehair, who have extensive backgrounds in playing multiple positions on the offensive line. Despite uncertainties surrounding Powers-Johnson’s availability, the Raiders are confident in their depth and ability to adapt heading into training camp.
The Raiders are strategically planning their offensive line rotations to ensure a strong and cohesive unit for the upcoming season.
