The Dolphins have moved quickly to secure Jaylen Waddle as one of the NFL’s top-paid receivers, alongside their other 1,000-yard wide receiver. However, with the emergence of Waddle, the team now faces a potential issue with having two top-paid pass catchers.
Tyreek Hill has solidified his Hall of Fame status during his time in Miami, excelling independently from Patrick Mahomes and achieving back-to-back 1,700-yard seasons. Despite Waddle’s youth, Hill has been the Dolphins’ primary target in his two seasons with the team.

Hill’s $30MM-per-year deal, signed in 2022, was surpassed by other receivers in terms of per-year value before Waddle’s extension. A.J. Brown and Amon-Ra St. Brown both earned contracts with higher average annual values than Hill. Hill has been seeking a new contract, especially after A.J. Brown’s market-setting extension.
Despite the success Hill has brought to the Chiefs and Dolphins, negotiations for a new deal have been ongoing. With younger receivers like Justin Jefferson set to command higher values, Hill’s negotiating power may diminish given his age and current contract situation.
With his production and consistency, Hill has proven his worth over multiple contracts, including a three-year deal after a turbulent period off-field. The Dolphins, considering a record extension for Tua Tagovailoa, may have to make adjustments to Hill’s contract or evaluate their options with a top receiver already locked in for the coming seasons.
