When it comes to Sunday’s games, the San Francisco 49ers may have had the most significant outcome. They went to Philadelphia and convincingly beat the Eagles 42-19 as 3-point favorites. This marked the first time in at least 20 years that a 10-1 or better team was a home underdog in the regular season with its starting QB in the game.
The final score is even more striking considering that Philadelphia was leading 6-0 at the end of the first quarter and had kept San Francisco to minus-6 total yards.
Following the blowout win, the 49ers are now considered the top favorites for the Super Bowl by sportsbooks, with odds at around +300. The Chiefs follow with the second-best odds at +550, and the Ravens and Eagles are tied at +600. The Dolphins at +800 and Cowboys at +900 are the only other teams with better than 10-1 odds.
Oddsmakers have consistently rated San Francisco highly throughout the season, with a slight drop-off during a three-game losing streak. However, when fully healthy, the 49ers are viewed as the team to beat.
Adam Pullen, assistant director of trading for Caesars Sportsbook, emphasized the strong performance of the 49ers and their consistent high power ratings. Thomas Gable, the sportsbook director at the Borgata in Atlantic City, also expressed a high opinion of the 49ers, making them a 5-point favorite on a neutral field against any NFL team.
Looking ahead, San Francisco’s health remains a concern. However, if they can avoid injuries, this might finally be Kyle Shanahan’s year.
