One of Houston’s defensive free agency additions, Jeff Okudah, has been placed on IR and will not be part of the team’s game plans in the near future. The former No. 3 overall pick is now sidelined due to a hip injury.
The Texans have elevated Rashad Weaver from the practice squad to fill Okudah’s roster spot. Weaver, a former Titans edge rusher, will now be part of the Texans’ 53-man roster.
Despite injuries plaguing Okudah’s career, the Texans signed him to a one-year, $4.75MM contract this offseason. The team also has other cornerbacks like Kris Boyd, Myles Bryant, Desmond King, and Troy Pride on the roster and practice squad.
The 26-year-old Weaver, who previously played for the Titans, will join Jerry Hughes and Derek Barnett as backup options behind starters Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson. King provides additional depth at corner for the Texans.
