Dennis Allen reaffirmed that Marshon Lattimore will remain with the Saints in 2024. The New Orleans head coach confirmed this during OTAs this week.
Trade rumors have been circulating, especially after teams inquired about Lattimore earlier this offseason. Allen addressed the rumors with the Pro Bowl cornerback earlier in the month. Lattimore’s contract, which has been restructured three times, runs through the 2026 season with an annual value of $19.4 million.
“I just thought it was something we needed to communicate,” Allen stated, indicating that he and Lattimore had a positive conversation and are looking forward to working together this season.
Lattimore, 28, did not participate in the initial Saints OTAs. Allen mentioned that Lattimore has not been present at the facility this offseason, making their recent conversation the first in a while. Despite missing voluntary workouts, Lattimore has faced injury challenges in the past two seasons.
After dealing with an ankle injury that caused him to miss seven games last season, Lattimore’s recovery from injuries in 2022 and 2023 raised internal concerns within the organization. Despite this, the Saints gave him another opportunity, in contrast to their handling of Michael Thomas, who encountered similar availability issues.
The Saints recently restructured Lattimore’s contract to make it more trade-friendly, reducing his 2024 salary cap hit to $14.62 million by introducing option bonuses. These bonuses, totaling $13.79 million, are prorated over the next five years. The structure allows for flexibility in the event of a potential trade.
Although trade rumors persist, a potential trade involving Lattimore seems unlikely, according to reports. The Saints are expected to give Lattimore another chance to contribute alongside other veteran players on the defense, such as Cameron Jordan, Demario Davis, and Tyrann Mathieu.
