Enmanuel Valdez and David Hamilton each had two RBI as the Boston Red Sox came back for an 8-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in the second game of their series on Wednesday.
The Red Sox recorded 13 hits in the game and overturned a 4-0 deficit by scoring in the middle innings, including a five-run fifth inning.
Jarren Duran went 3-for-5 with an RBI and run scored, while Rafael Devers (triple) and Hamilton (home run) both contributed two hits to help Boston tie the series.
Philadelphia only managed three hits against five Boston relievers, with Cam Booser (1-2) getting the win after Nick Pivetta.
Nick Castellanos and Bryce Harper of the Phillies both had 2-for-4 games, and Bryson Stott recorded two RBI.
Jose Ruiz (1-1) took the loss for Philadelphia.
The rally began with Jamie Westbrook’s sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, supported by Rafael Devers’ triple. Boston’s big inning started with three consecutive hits and a throwing error by Phillies’ Whit Merrifield. Valdez’s pinch-hit, two-RBI single off the Green Monster gave Boston the lead.
Hamilton’s two-run homer in the sixth inning, following a Bobby Dalbec walk, extended Boston’s lead.
The Phillies responded by making it a three-run game in the seventh inning with a Bryson Stott double into the right-field corner.
Boston left five runners on base in the final two innings but secured the win with Kenley Jansen earning the save.
The game started with Philadelphia scoring two runs in the first inning, led by Kyle Schwarber’s leadoff walk and Castellanos’ RBI double.
The game ended with both starters allowing four runs in four innings.
