Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …
PFF Running Back Rankings: Top 32 ahead of the 2024 NFL season – PFF
6. Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles. After five years with the New York Giants, Saquon Barkley will be toting the rock behind a vaunted Eagles offensive line and hoping for more efficiency. Barkley is still one of the most talented running backs in the NFL but averaged just 3.9 yards per carry in 2023, despite rushing for 962 yards in 14 games. His 70.2 grade in 2023 was down from his 77.1 grade in 2022, but Barkley still posted solid numbers and his 719 yards after contact ranked ninth. If he’s healthy, Barkley could explode in 2024.
Saquon Barkley has something he’s never had before and he’s loving it – NBCSP
To fully understand why Saquon Barkley is so happy being an Eagle you have to understand what it was like being a Giant. He was there six years. His teams won more than six games once and won one playoff game. He was never part of an offense ranked higher than 17th. His quarterback the last five years was Daniel Jones. He didn’t play alongside a wide receiver who had 800 yards after his rookie year. He’s never played with a Pro Bowl offensive lineman, quarterback or wide receiver. He made more Pro Bowls since entering the NFL in 2018 than all his offensive teammates combined. No wonder he’s been smiling since he got here. “The biggest thing that struck me is our first 7-on-7 huddle (in OTAs),” Barkley said. “You see A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert and Jalen Hurts. It’s not a bad group to be out there with. And that’s not even including the offensive linemen.”
Eagles rookie NFL player comparisons: CB Quinyon Mitchell – PhillyVoice
The player Mitchell reminds me a bit of is former Chiefs and current Titans cornerback L’Jarius Sneed. Like Mitchell, Sneed went to a smaller school (Louisiana Tech), and he had usage concerns entering the NFL. In fact, though he was always viewed as a cornerback prospect heading into the NFL, he played safety at Louisiana Tech, so his projection from a small school to the NFL was even more difficult than Mitchell’s. As players, Sneed also has inside-outside versatility, and he too gets his hands on a lot of passes, with 40 career pass breakups and 10 INTs in 57 career games. He has also shown the willingness to do the dirty work against the run, as he averaged 87 tackles per season over the last three years with the Chiefs. And, oh hey, Mitchell and Sneed also have very similar size/athleticism measurables.
Jalen Carter TAKING OVER Eagles Defense + Devin White LOVES Fangio’s System & AJ Brown Looks JACKED – YouTube
Eagles Week 1 OTA news is in the books and the headlines that jumped off the page this week included Jalen Carter explaining why he’ll have a much bigger year in 2024 than year one. Plus new linebacker Devin White seems to be taking on a huge leadership role in Vic Fangio’s defense. Finally, AJ Brown seemingly bulked up this offseason and is already putting on a show at practice. Bleeding Green Nation’s Managing Editor Brandon Lee Gowton joined me to discuss what he saw from week 1 of Eagles’ OTA practices.
Why the Cowboys should avoid suggested trade for this running back – Blogging The Boys
Najee Harris doesn’t have the premier burst to run away from a defense, just average speed. Per fantasypros.com, Harris had the fourth-most runs of 20+ yards (8) but zero for 30 yards or more. When you factor everything in, Harris’s reduced role isn’t a means to preserve him; it’s a means to move past him. Pittsburgh has declined to pick up his fifth-year option, essentially meaning that the team is willing to play things out with him this season at the very least. As a player, Harris’ situation in Pittsburgh feels eerily similar to where the Cowboys were with Ezekiel Elliott two years ago: A good running back with excellent football character but isn’t worth a substantial investment. The concern with Dallas trading for Najee Harris is they get Harris at what he is now, versus what he was during the amateur and early stages of his career. The Cowboys have been known to overpay in trades, such as their trade for third-string quarterback Trey Lance. Harris will turn 27 next spring, and there’s no sign a change of scenery will change what he already is. Do not make that trade.
How will the Giants’ 2024 season shake out? – Big Blue View
Right now, the Giants are (currently) predicted to have the sixth hardest schedule in the NFL. And given how the Giants have performed lately, as well as how much we don’t know (for better or worse), it makes sense to be conservative with predictions.
The 5 O’Clock Club: First-team All-American and National Champion, Mikey Sainristil – Hogs Haven
At 5’9” and 182 pounds, Mikey Sainristil doesn’t sound like an NFL defensive player, but in his time at Michigan, Sainristil played big. I mean, it’s not like Washington fans haven’t seen good defensive backs his size before; after all, Darrell Green was 5’9”, 184 pounds when he was drafted. The one area in which Sainristil’s size may hamper him is against the run game, where he may simply fall off tackles due to his physical limitations. This may create mismatch opportunities for opposing offenses, but I would expect DQ & Joe Whitt to design defensive plans that mitigate this issue.
