The first day of the 2024 wild card playoffs is complete, with the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs advancing Saturday. Now, we move on to some NFC action with Sunday’s slate. The Green Bay Packers are on the road against the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Rams are visiting the Detroit Lions in Matthew Stafford’s return to his old stomping grounds. We at BetFTW already gave our straight up picks and picks against the spread for each game, so now I’m trying my hand at a few player props for Sunday’s action. After sifting through some stats and trends, these are my favorite plays from each game.
Jones hasn’t scored a touchdown in his last six game, but he’ll be Green Bay’s bell-cow back with A.J. Dillon doubtful to play. And the only players that have really scored on Dallas over the last few weeks have been running backs, whether it be on the ground or through the air. That leaves Jones as your best bet to score Sunday, especially given his versatility out the backfield. Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports
We know CeeDee Lamb is Dak Prescott’s top target, and he’ll get a ton of catches. But somebody has to emerge as a second option in this contest, and Ferguson might have the best matchup to be that player. It also helps that he’s received at least six targets in six straight games, and eclipsed this line four times in this span. Wm. Glasheen-USA TODAY Sports
I’m guessing Dallas will put a lot of attention on stopping Aaron Jones and Green Bay’s outside receiving threats, which will leave Reed opportunities to get open from the slot. I think he can find some success. Especially if Dallas gets ahead early and forces Green Bay into a pass-heavy game script, Reed could be a big beneficiary. Before last week’s regular-season finale, Stafford had thrown for multiple passing touchdowns in five straight games. This matchup against Detroit presents the perfect opportunity for him to start a new streak, because the Lions defense ranked as the NFL’s eighth-worst in expected points added per play. I mentioned how much I’m expecting the Rams to open things up on offense. That means the Lions will have to respond, and they’re more than capable of doing just that. Amon-Ra St. Brown is a matchup nightmare in the slot, and Goff is playing at a high level. I think he’ll go over 261 yards, which would be his fourth time doing so in the last five games. The Lions will also want a good blend of run to go with the pass, and that’s not something they need to be told to do. They love pounding the rock, and they’ve been slowly moving more of the workload from David Montgomery to Gibbs down the stretch of the season. The rookie should be fresh and ready for a big role, so I expect him to eclipse this total after doing so in the last three games.
