An exciting pitching matchup is set as the Boston Red Sox welcome the Philadelphia Phillies for the final game of their three-game series on Thursday.

The Red Sox will rely on right-hander Tanner Houck (6-5, 1.91 ERA) to try and secure the series win after a comeback victory in the second game on Wednesday.

Philadelphia will send right-hander Aaron Nola (8-2, 2.77 ERA) to the mound.

Houck has been impressive in Boston’s rotation, pitching at least six innings in his last four starts while only allowing four runs during that stretch.

Expressing his desire to go deep into games, Houck stated, “I want to go six, seven or eight innings. That’s how you separate yourself as a pitcher.”

In his recent outing against the White Sox, Houck racked up nine strikeouts and allowed only two runs over seven innings to claim his third consecutive win.

The Red Sox have been getting strong performances from their starters all season, with Houck leading the American League in ERA.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora praised his starters for consistently exceeding expectations and providing quality outings.

In the ongoing series, Kutter Crawford delivered a solid start, while the Boston offense supported Nick Pivetta with a strong showing at the plate in the second game.

David Hamilton’s two-run home run was a key highlight of the game, as he continues to produce multi-hit games for the Red Sox.

Houck will face the Phillies for the second time in his career after a loss to them earlier this year. On the other side, Nola has been on a good streak with five straight starts without a loss.

Most recently, Nola delivered a dominant performance against the Brewers, pitching seven shutout innings with five strikeouts and no walks.

Philadelphia has fared well in Nola’s starts this season, with an 11-2 record when he takes the mound.

Despite the loss on Wednesday, the Phillies maintain a comfortable lead in the NL East division.

Both Nick Castellanos and Bryce Harper had notable performances in the game, but the Phillies suffered their second loss in three games.
