Most improved secondaries after the 2024 NFL Draft: Eagles, Ravens lead the way – PFF
James Bradberry and Darius Slay fell off a bit last year. They earned 77.1 and 77.3 coverage grades, respectively, in 2022 before posting 52.0 and 65.4 marks in 2023. The Eagles subsequently went out and hit not one, but two home runs in that area in drafting Mitchell and DeJean. Quinyon Mitchell will likely start right away, while Cooper DeJean could be eased into things as he recovers from a foot injury suffered in 2023 that hampered his draft process. That doesn’t mean we won’t see DeJean at all in 2024, though. He should be good to go by training camp and is one of the more versatile secondary players from the 2024 class. He could get looks in the slot or at safety.
2024 NFL rookie updates: Notes on 32 first-round draft picks – ESPN
22. Philadelphia Eagles — Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo. How he has fared so far: Mitchell has been working primarily with the second team at outside cornerback and occasionally ran with the first team in dime packages. He was sticky in coverage throughout the spring and very much looked liked he belonged despite making the leap from the Mid-American Conference. During a rare rep against A.J. Brown, the normally quiet Mitchell surprised Brown by telling him the route he ran was “trash.”

Eagles rookie NFL player comparisons: C Dylan McMahon – PhillyVoice
I’ve seen some make the observation that both McMahon (190th overall pick, 2024) and Jason Kelce (191st overall pick, 2011) were both athletic, undersized sixth-round centers, but, I mean, come on. The player who I identified as a closer match is Scott Quessenberry, who is a free agent, but who has played for the Chargers and Texans. If you know who Scott Quessenberry is, a tip of the cap to you, sir or ma’am.

In Roob’s Eagles Observations: Can Avonte Maddox really play safety? – NBCSP
There’s been a lot of talk about Avonte Maddox getting some work at safety during OTAs, and while it does make sense in a way — the Eagles have a surplus of corners and not enough safeties and Cooper DeJean seems like he’s headed for the starting slot — I have my doubts. I like Maddox. I really admire the way he plays. He’s a tough, hard-nosed, physical defensive back, and there’s no question he has the skills to play safety. At least for a little while.
Darius Slay reflects on being the ‘older brother’ in the cornerback room – PE.com
“That’s the main thing, just teaching them how to be a pro,” said Slay, a team captain. “I was talking to them, letting them know ‘I’m always here for y’all. Anything y’all need from me, I got ya.’ I want to give them a blueprint of everything to make sure they succeed at this level. That’s my job to do. That’s what I’ve always been brought up to do. I’m an older brother to all the siblings.”

3 Cowboys that need to have a bounce-back season – Blogging The Boys
Mazi Smith was the team’s top pick in last year’s draft and his selection was a change in philosophy. The Cowboys knew they needed to fortify their run defense, and added Smith in the first round was spending a premium resource on addressing a necessity rather than scrambling for spare parts. Smith came to the Cowboys as a defensive tackle who excelled at stuffing the run and dominating interior offensive linemen with his power while having enough quickness to provide some pass rush upside.
Ex-QB Tyree Jackson still trying to prove he is an NFL tight end – Big Blue View
Even with the retirement of Darren Waller, it is difficult to see a path to the roster for Jackson unless there are injuries. Starter Daniel Bellinger and reserve Lawrence Cager are back, and head coach Brian Daboll recently called Cager “one of the most improved players throughout the offseason.”

Chiefs’ new Super Bowl rings have an error in the design – SB Nation
Let me say right off the bat that if you have a mistake on your third Super Bowl ring in a five-year span then ultimately you are doing alright for yourself. Rich people problems as they say. But a mistake is a mistake and it appears that the Kansas City Chiefs have one on their Super Bowl rings. The Chiefs received their latest jewels in…
