1. Philadelphia Eagles. While the Eagles’ offensive line, mainly due to injuries, could not keep up its 2022 form for all 18 weeks of the 2023 regular season, the unit at full strength and playing to its potential was still the best in the NFL. Mailata (85.9), Kelce (84.8) and Johnson (82.9) were each among the five highest-graded players at their positions this season. Best player: Jordan Mailata. Mailata was the only NFL offensive tackle this season to earn at least an 83.0 grade in both run blocking and pass blocking.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Bill Belichick? There’s been no shortage of discussion about the Birds potentially moving on from Nick Sirianni after an epic collapse to end the 2023 season. Mike Florio added more fuel to the fire on Saturday with a Pro Football Talk article titled: “Is Nick Sirianni in danger of being replaced?” Bold emphasis is mine: “The Eagles went to the Super Bowl last year. They started the current season 10-1. But someone has gone very wrong in recent weeks, and there’s a sense in some circles that coach Nick Sirianni could be in trouble if the Eagles follow their 1-5 finish with 0-1 in the postseason. The Eagles would scoff at such possibilities, pointing out that Sirianni has gone to the playoffs in each of his three seasons as the head coach. Some in league circles firmly regard a coaching change as impossible, even if the Eagles get blown out. An unmistakable undercurrent remains that a change isn’t out of the question, if things continue to go poorly against the Bucs. The key could be the availability of Bill Belichick.

As such, it’s best for the Eagles first and foremost if the Cowboys lose, which would eliminate both the Cowboys and 49ers as divisional round opponents. A Lions loss would at a minimum eliminate the 49ers as a divisional round opponent, and of course if the Cowboys and Lions lost the Eagles would have a home game, as noted above.

Julio Jones will have a chance to show his value. He’s not a playmaker anymore, but can help to move the chains. Olamide Zaccheaus will get mixed in. I’m curious to see if Britain Covey gets more snaps. He’s not 100 percent so they may have him focus on being the PR. The real key to this game is Hurts. He’s not 100 percent because of his finger injury, but he’s healthy enough that he can play well and lead the Eagles to a win. Hurts won’t have his safety blanket and that might be a good thing in its own way. Spread the ball around. Don’t force it downfield. That’s the optimistic view. There is always the possibility that Hurts will struggle without his favorite target. More than anything, Hurts has to protect the ball. He hasn’t done that during the Eagles bad stretch. Tampa isn’t an explosive offense so you don’t want to help them out. Make them drive the long field.

8. Eagles tight ends had only 669 receiving yards this year – 592 from Dallas Goedert, 39 from Grant Calcaterra and 38 from Jack Stoll. That’s the fewest yards by Eagles tight end since 2010, when they had 583 – 511 for Brent Celek and 72 for Clay Harbor. Goedert has had an up-and-down season with a slow start and some injuries, but the Eagles could sure use a big game from him Monday night in the middle of the field against that Tampa blitz.

“When I was able to run out of that tunnel again, it was the best feeling in the world.” Eagles cornerback Avonte Maddox never thought that opportunity would present itself just four months ago. Maddox suffered a torn pectoral muscle on September 14, 2023 during the Eagles’ Week 2 win over the Minnesota Vikings. In the second quarter of the game, Maddox tackled Vikings running back Alexander Mattison out of bounds. He immediately felt something that he described as a “stretch.” An MRI revealed a torn pec, an injury that Maddox was told would take five to six months to recover from, basically ending his season. “When they told me I needed surgery, I’m not going to lie, I busted out crying,” a chuckling Maddox said. “I love the game, I love to play, and what I went through last year, it was tough for me.”

Lots of good news, the bad news? The Chef isn’t cooking with his best ingredients— Baker Mayfield is injured. Tampa Bay’s quarterback was the recipient of a late hit against the New Orleans Saints. The injury and its effect on Mayfield’s performance is more than speculativie. Mayfield has been listed on the team’s injury report and has yet to throw a touchdown since the play. Tampa’s game being a Monday night contest could help Mayfield, giving him extra time to rest, but his health is in question and as a result, Tampa Bay’s offense may not be as productive as it was down-the-stretch with a healthy chef.

Cornerback Jaire Alexander and receiver Christian Watson are officially listed as questionable on the Packers
final injury report. Watson has not played since a Week 13 win over the Chiefs, missing five games in a row. In last season’s meeting against the Cowboys, Watson scored three touchdowns on just four catches for 107 yards. Two of these scores came in the fourth quarter to turn a 28-14 Dallas lead into a tie game that Green Bay won in overtime at Lambeau Field. If Watson does play, the Cowboys secondary is hoping for a better plan against the second year receiver that had the only three-touchdown game of his career against them. DaRon Bland, Stephon Gilmore, and Jourdan Lewis have played well in single man coverage with help from safeties Donovan Wilson and Malik Hooker, with the secondary playing in sync behind a fearsome pass rush.
