At the start of the 2024 draft, three quarterbacks were selected. While Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels have not finalized their rookie contracts, Drake Maye has. The New England Patriots signed Maye for a four-year deal with a fifth-year option possible for 2028. The contract is estimated to be worth $36.64MM according to Over the Cap.
Before the draft, Williams was seen as the likely No. 1 pick, which was confirmed by the Bears’ selection. Daniels was the Commanders’ choice, leaving the Patriots with the decision to pick Maye with the third overall pick. The team ultimately chose Maye to potentially succeed Tom Brady, aiming for a better outcome than the Mac Jones era.
Despite trade offers from the Giants and Vikings, the Patriots retained their third pick to select Maye. Maye may not start immediately, as the team also signed Jacoby Brissett to compete for the starting position. Maye had an impressive sophomore year at North Carolina but faced a regression in his production last season.
