With the game on the line, there’s no quarterback in the NFL who is more reliable than Patrick Mahomes. The two-time Super Bowl champ has proven that time and time again.
He doesn’t shy away from the moment either — that was clear during Sunday’s AFC title game.
On the Chiefs’ final drive against the Ravens, Kansas City was facing a third-and-long play with the two-minute warning looming. If they failed to convert there, the Ravens would have gotten the ball back for a potential game-tying drive. So, when Baltimore called its final timeout before that third-down play, Mahomes had one demand for the Chiefs coaching staff.
“Give me the ball.”
Mahomes trusting himself and his receivers is awesome to see 👏

“Give me the ball.”
The latest edition of Inside the NFL picked up Mahomes telling the Chiefs coaches that he wanted to take that decisive shot downfield and seal the game. That’s exactly what he did too with a 32-yard completion to Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Keep watching for Mahomes’ reaction too.
That kind of confidence is contagious, and fans absolutely loved hearing Mahomes step up in that situation. He wasn’t letting that drive end on a conservative play call at all.
This was how Twitter reacted
For all of the people talking about us getting shut out the 2nd half. You hear him say “give me the ball”? The plan was play smart, milk the clock, but if we needed to, we could have scored again! https://t.co/svc2EMn2kF

That’s crazy, my reaction to that MVS catch was exactly the same as Pat’s, except in my living room. https://t.co/uaYpyFE5AW

And this sums it all up. Everyone in that @Chiefs locker room knows that this guy always gives them a chance. And when that one thing is required, he won’t shrink in the moment. That’s not to say he will always be successful. He has lost in the postseason. But all those https://t.co/vgHvYjwrPy

This is where Reid’s relationship with Patrick is at this point and it should terrify the NFL. Reid generally hasn’t been aggressive but if he’s willing to be more aggressive this is going to be a lot of fun! https://t.co/MpyLwWvLgt
