The Titans terminated their contract with Andre Dillard after one season, releasing the former first-round pick in March due to salary cap constraints. Dillard, who has yet to live up to his draft expectations, will have a chance to prove himself in 2024.
Dillard is now joining the Packers, as announced by the team on Thursday. With the departure of the 11-year veteran David Bakhtiari due to knee issues, the Packers sought a player with experience as a left tackle starter and swingman, leading them to Dillard. Before signing with the Packers, Dillard also met with the Chiefs, according to a tweet from ESPN.com’s Jeremy Fowler.

Bakhtiari’s return from his knee injury was short-lived, resulting in his release by the Packers shortly after the legal tampering period. The team will incur $18.1MM in dead money due to Bakhtiari’s release, impacting their payroll in 2024.
At 28, Dillard could potentially start, although his career thus far suggests a swing role may be more suitable. The Packers also lost Nijman, who moved to the Panthers in free agency. Green Bay, known for its proactive approach to the offensive line, traded up for Dillard in 2019 with hopes of grooming him as the successor to Jason Peters. However, Dillard ended up as the swingman while Jordan Mailata emerged as Peters’ replacement.
Dillard’s time with the Titans was marred by performance issues, eventually leading to his benching halfway through the season. Despite several opportunities, Dillard struggled to solidify his role in the Titans’ lineup, resulting in his release this year. The Chiefs, on the other hand, have a strong offensive line returning with potential plans to add a left tackle through free agency or the draft.
The Packers’ focus now shifts to incorporating Dillard into their offensive line, potentially creating a competition with Walker who had a significant role in the 2023 season. Dillard’s versatility and experience provide the Packers with added depth at the position, essential given Bakhtiari’s injury concerns.
