CeeDee Lamb has been seeking an extension throughout the offseason. Whether a deal will be reached in the coming weeks remains a key storyline for the Cowboys. The All-Pro wide receiver is among several players in the league facing uncertain contract situations that could lead to a potential training camp holdout.

Lamb recently saw Justin Jefferson become the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league with his Vikings extension. The $35 million average annual value of Jefferson’s contract could serve as a starting point for Lamb’s negotiations. However, the Cowboys are not looking to reset the market further with extensions for Lamb, quarterback Dak Prescott , or edge rusher Micah Parsons. Once Lamb’s new deal is finalized, he is expected to earn significantly more than the $17.99 million value of his 2024 fifth-year option.

According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, an agreement with the 25-year-old Lamb is expected to be reached before training camp begins next month. The deal is likely to be in line with or slightly below Jefferson’s contract in terms of value. Until substantial progress is made in negotiations, the situation remains unresolved.

Here are some other updates on the Cowboys:

  • After losing Tony Pollard in free agency, Dallas brought back Ezekiel Elliott on a one-year, $2 million deal post-draft. Head coach Mike McCarthy reportedly wanted to finalize the signing during the draft to prevent Elliott from potentially signing with another team. The Cowboys ultimately re-signed the former rushing champion in anticipation of a running back committee approach in 2024.
  • Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown missed his rookie season due to a torn ACL, so it’s not surprising that he sat out Dallas’ spring practices. Alongside him, defensive tackle Mazi Smith and tight end Luke Schoonmaker were also absent as they recovered from their own injuries during OTAs and minicamp. Their participation and performances in training camp will be worth monitoring.
  • Gareon Conley joined the Cowboys on a one-year deal after his time with the Texans ended. He had filed a grievance against Houston related to injuries he suffered while with the team, which has since been settled, with Conley receiving $100,000 from the Texans. The 29-year-old cornerback’s last game was in 2019.
