NFL Analyst Praises Jalen Hurts’ Potential for a Strong Comeback Season with Eagles

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

State of the 2024 Philadelphia Eagles: Super Bowl or bust after last season’s stunning collapse? – NFL.com
Jalen Hurts is an elite quarterback. I know I had him downgraded a bit heading into last season for FANTASY REASONS, mainly because I didn’t see him scoring double-digit rushing touchdowns again. He proved me wrong on that one. But I love him as a field general. He struggled with interceptions when throwing from the pocket last year. Heck, he struggled with turnovers in general (20 giveaways, 12 more than he had in 2022). His fourth-quarter passer rating dropped from 104.7 in 2022 (second in the NFL) to 83.6 in 2023. But I’ve seen enough from Hurts over the years to believe he can bounce back this season. Hurts has a 112.8 passer rating on downfield passes (10-plus air yards) since 2022 — the third-highest mark in the NFL over that span — which fits nicely with Kellen Moore’s affinity for taking shots. Philly might have to move away from the Brotherly Shove (not entirely), but I’ll get to that in a moment. Overall, I really love Hurts’ chances of bouncing back this season. By the way, the Eagles traded for former first-round pick Kenny Pickett to be the new backup QB, too.

Nickerson, who turns 30 in October, was originally a sixth-round pick by the New York Jets in the 2018 NFL Draft. Since then, he’s spent time with the Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, and Miami Dolphins. All told, he’s logged three starts in 30 career games played.

Eagles rookie NFL player comparisons: OG Trevor Keegan – PhillyVoice
Keegan also tested reasonably well at the NFL Combine for a guy known as a road grader. He’s not Jason Kelce, but he’s also not some unathletic slug. A player who has a similar profile is Mark Glowinski, who is currently a free agent, but who has played for the Seahawks, Colts, and Giants over a nine-year NFL career (124 games, 96 starts). Glowinski was a Seahawks fourth-round pick (134th overall) in 2015; Keegan went 172nd overall in the 2024 draft. Like Keegan, Glowinski has shorter than ideal arms, but reasonably good athleticism for a guard.

Jason, Travis, and Donna Kelce. In many ways, Jason and Travis Kelce have been some of the biggest stars of the NFL in recent years. Their podcast “New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce” has become a must-listen, and Travis’ Kansas City Chiefs have won back-to-back Super Bowls, beating Jason’s Philadelphia Eagles two years ago. And their mother, Donna Kelce, has become a celebrity in her own right.

Work week ends without Falcons, Eagles tampering punishment – PFT
On Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reported that the punishments of the Falcons (for tampering with Kirk Cousins) and Eagles (for tampering with Saquon Barkley) were “likely to come this week.” The work week has ended. Unless there’s a Saturday announcement, it’s not happening. In fairness to Schefter, he said “likely” not definite. Also, it wouldn’t be the first time that plans deliberately changed after word of a coming announcement leaked.

Cowboys mailbag: Questions on CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott and getting contracts finalized – Blogging The Boys
“What does next year look like if Dak isn’t on the team?” It looks like an offense led by Trey Lance. If Dak ends up not signing an extension and has priced himself out of the team then the front office will more than likely sign Lance to an extension and he becomes the heir to the throne. What that looks like is up for debate as we haven’t seen Lance play under center in Dallas a great deal, plus we don’t know how far along he’s developed in the offseason. We will get to see plenty of Lance this preseason and he will pretty much dominate the snap share in the preseason games. So from there we can judge what this offense would look like if Dak was to leave the team next year and have a clearer answer to this question.

Giants are giving CB Cor’Dale Flott a big chance in 2024 – Big Blue View
The Giants are counting on Flott to step forward and grab a full-time starting job on the outside this season. Tae Banks, the Giants’ 2023 first-round pick, is locked in at one cornerback spot. The Giants drafted Andru Phillips in the third round to play the slot, and this spring Nick McCloud has also been receiving snaps in the slot. Flott is being given the opportunity to replace Adoree’ Jackson, who the Giants did not re-sign this offseason. Giants head coach Brian Daboll said this spring that he has “a lot of confidence” in Flott. The 6-foot, 175-pound Flott was happy to hear it.
