Even though the Buccaneers have made significant efforts to retain players this offseason, it would not have been too costly to offer a second deal to Devin White. White, a former first-round pick, signed a one-year, $4MM contract with the Eagles.
White’s contract is comparable to Baker Mayfield’s 2023 deal with the Bucs. Both players faced challenges in their fifth-year option season and sought extensions. With White moving to Philadelphia, K.J. Britt is now the frontrunner to play alongside Lavonte David. Defensive coordinator Todd Bowles sees Britt as a solid replacement for White and believes he can become a reliable starter.
Britt, who had his first career starts last season, showed promise in the playoffs by outperforming White in terms of snaps. With key players like Mayfield, David, and Mike Evans locked in, the Bucs are counting on lower-cost options like Britt to step up. SirVocea Dennis, another young linebacker, could also challenge for a starting role in the absence of a veteran addition or draft pick.
