Josh Sweat explains mindset and new number after roller-coaster offseason – NBCSP
During a roller-coaster offseason filled with questions about his future and swirling trade speculation, Josh Sweat decided to change his jersey number from 94 to 19. But it wasn’t all that deep. “Shoot, I just needed a change, man,” Sweat said. “Just like when I cut my hair. I just wanted something new.” Sweat said he didn’t have a problem with the No. 94 he wore the last five years in the NFL but he feels fresh in 19. He had some other choices first but 15 is retired and 9 (the number he wore in high school and college) is quasi-retired — so he ended up with 19. Sweat might have a new number this year. But his mindset hasn’t changed. Not even after he agreed to a restructured deal this offseason, one that will leave him as a free agent at the end of 2024.
Eagles Training Camp Practice Notes: Nolan Smith contributes to defensive line dominance – BGN
Kudos to the Eagles’ defensive line for taking advantage of a weakened offensive line. Nolan Smith especially stood out with back-to-back “sacks” on Hurts. His first came when he used his flexibility to dip under Fred Johnson and get to Hurts before the quarterback could even realize what happened; a very quick win. On the next rep, Smith used an inside move to get past Johnson and get to Hurts. Obviously need to see Smith have success against higher quality competition but this was an encouraging day for his development.

7/29: I thought Isaiah Rodgers made a hell of a play today. Kenny Pickett threw an on-target deep pass to what appeared to be an open Joseph Ngata into the end zone, but Rodgers showed excellent recovery speed and broke up the play. That was an eye-opening moment with Rodgers. It was a “starter” type of play.
How About Some Defense – Iggles Blitz
Kelee Ringo was a project when the Eagles drafted him in April of 2023. A very talented project to be sure, but a player who needed to develop. Ringo got some playing time as a rookie. He flashed ability, but also looked like an inconsistent young DB. Ringo seems like a different player this summer. He is getting reps with the 1’s and has played well. He and Rodgers will keep battling to see who starts opposite of Big Play Slay.
Fantasy Football Player Profile 2024: Philadelphia Eagles WR DeVonta Smith – PFF
The Eagles brought in Kellen Moore to be their offensive coordinator. He generally runs a lot of plays, and his offense has largely depended on his personnel. One exciting prospect is the success of Moore’s top wide receivers. CeeDee Lamb is typically the X receiver in two-receiver sets and plays in the slot in three-receiver sets, which is the best role for PPR scoring. In preparation for the season, Smith has been studying Lamb. Lamb was WR19 in 2021 and WR5 in 2022. Last season with the Los Angeles Chargers, Keenan Allen was typically the Z in base and then the slot in three-receiver sets, and he finished at WR8.
Jalen Hurts remains Smith’s quarterback, and after Jason Kelce‘s retirement, there is a chance the Eagles won’t use the “tush push” as often close to the goal line.
They will likely hand off to Saquon Barkley most of the time, but there is a chance they might pass more than they ordinarily would in those situations, leading to more touchdown opportunities for Smith.

13) Saquon Barkley, RB: Signed by Philadelphia Eagles. Speaking of running backs, the Eagles did their best to copycat the success of the 49ers with Christian McCaffrey by signing Barkley. Barkley was 12th in scrimmage yards per game last season, averaging 88.7.
Eagles Training Camp Notebook: Who is taking charge at linebacker? – PE.com
The Eagles have rotated their first-team reps, primarily featuring combinations of Baun, White, and Nakobe Dean, who is healthy and hoping to have a breakout campaign in his third season. Oren Burks was a key special teams player and a starter for San Francisco in February’s Super Bowl, so he’s going to push for a role.

Steelers release veteran CB heading into Week 2 of training camp – Behind The Steel Curtain
The Pittsburgh Steelers released veteran defensive back Josiah Scott on Monday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports. The move comes after just four training camp practices, heading into the second week of the final offseason program. Scott was competing for an opportunity to work in as a slot corner for the Steelers this season.
The Cowboys should reach out to this free agent following the loss of Sam Williams – Blogging The Boys
While the selection of Kneeland will obviously help lighten the blow of this injury, the team will still need to look at available free agents to help with their depth. A name that immediately sticks out is Carl Lawson. Lawson, a 2017 fourth-round pick, has had an impactful six-year career in the NFL. He’s produced 27.0 sacks, 119 total tackles, and 28 tackles for loss.
Tommy DeVito: It would be ‘gamble’ for Giants if they don’t keep me – NY Post
“I’m very aware of how they operate in this organization,” the Cedar Grove, N.J. native said. “That’s up to them to make that decision, make that gamble. I’m going to continue to play. We’ll see how everything unfolds. If they decide to [cut] …
