The 49ers have been making significant changes to their defensive line this offseason as they look to bounce back from last year’s Super Bowl defeat.
Arik Armstead departed in free agency after being released, while Chase Young left for the Saints on a one-year contract. The team acquired Maliek Collins to replace Armstead at a lower cost and signed edge rushers Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos for two-year deals.
General manager John Lynch emphasized the team’s desire for stability on the defensive line, opting for multi-year deals with key players like Floyd and Gross-Matos. The additions aim to complement star pass rusher Nick Bosa and maintain the team’s strong defensive performance from last season.
The newcomers, including Jordan Elliott, will be expected to contribute to the team’s success in 2024. Regardless of the unit’s performance, the 49ers have solidified their core defensive line with key signings for the foreseeable future.
