Jalen Hurts and Geno Smith ready to play in Eagles vs. Seahawks game

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced the inactives list for their 2023 NFL Week 15 game against the Seattle Seahawks.

The following Eagles players WILL NOT PLAY: Darius Slay, Zach Cunningham, Cam Jurgens, Albert Okwuegbunam, Rashaad Penny, and Tanner McKee.

The big news is that Jalen Hurts is ACTIVE and will start despite dealing with an illness that caused him to travel to Seattle separately from the team. To be determined just how much (if at all) he’s hampered by not feeling well.

Slay, Cunningham, and Jurgens were all ruled out on the final injury report.

Kelee Ringo will reportedly make his first NFL start in place of Slay. It will not be surprising if it’s a bumpy road for the fourth-round rookie CB. Ringo is the youngest player on the Eagles’ roster; he doesn’t turn 21.5 until December 27.

Cunningham’s absence means the Eagles have three healthy off-ball linebackers: Shaq Leonard, Nicholas Morrow, and Ben VanSumeren. Leonard is going to have to play a lot more after being eased into Philly’s defense last week.

With Jurgens out, the Eagles are expected to start Sua Opeta at right guard. This despite the fact Opeta has recently been a healthy scratch as the ninth offensive lineman. A bit weird that it’s not Tyler Steen ahead of him.

Undrafted rookie defensive back Mekhi Garner is appearing in his third NFL game after being temporarily elevated from the practice squad.

Moro Ojomo is notably active after previously serving as a healthy scratch. More DT depth.

Under the NFL’s emergency third quarterback rule, McKee is allowed to play if both Jalen Hurts AND Marcus Mariota leave the game due to injury.

Philadelphia Eagles Inactive List

CB Darius Slay – Injury.

LB Zach Cunningham – Injury.

OG Cam Jurgens – Injury.

TE Albert Okwuegbunam – Fourth TE.

RB Rashaad Penny – Fourth RB.

QB Tanner McKee* – Third QB.

Seattle Seahawks Inactive List

Seahawks starting quarterback Geno Smith is officially ACTIVE despite being ruled questionable to play. This is a bit of a surprise since it looked like Drew Lock might start. We’ll see if Smith is able to make it through the game or if his groin injury will eventually force Lock into action. UPDATE: Still not perfectly clear if Geno is actually starting despite being active. We’ll see.

Starting safety Jamal Adams is OUT. Adams is usually a liability for Seattle so his absence might be a case of addition by subtraction.

Rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon is also notably OUT. The Seahawks’ struggling secondary is missing one of their more promising players.

WR D’Wayne Eskridge

RB Kenny McIntosh

OG McClendon Curtis
