The Philadelphia Eagles hosted the second of two OTA practices open to media access on Thursday afternoon at the NovaCare Complex, and I had the opportunity to witness the action firsthand. Here are my observations from the practice:
- DISCLAIMER: Before we begin, please note that the Eagles do not allow video recordings or photography after warmups and position drills, which is why there are no team drill highlights included.
- ATTENDANCE UPDATES: DeVonta Smith, Lane Johnson, Darius Slay, James Bradberry, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and Josh Sweat were notably absent from today’s voluntary practice. Smith, Johnson, and Sweat also did not attend last week’s practice. Kelee Ringo returned to practice after missing last week.
- INJURY UPDATES: Sydney Brown is still not practicing, Nakobe Dean appeared to be limited, Ainias Smith showed some improvement but remains limited in team drills, and Jacob Harris watched practice from the sideline due to an undisclosed injury.
- DEPTH CHART NOTES, DEFENSE: With key players missing, the first-team secondary saw Isaiah Rodgers at left cornerback, Kelee Ringo at right cornerback, Tyler Hall at nickel cornerback, and Reed Blankenship and Avonte Maddox at safety. The second-team secondary included Quinyon Mitchell, Eli Ricks, and Cooper DeJean. In the linebacker rotation, Devin White and Zack Baun were initially on the field, with Dean rotating in at times.
- DEPTH CHART NOTES, OFFENSE: Tyler Steen was featured as the first-team right guard, with Mekhi Becton filling in for Johnson at right tackle.
- JALEN HURTS UPDATE: It wasn’t Jalen Hurts’ best practice, as he threw multiple interceptions and missed a potential touchdown pass to Dallas Goedert.
- Isaiah Rodgers continued to impress, making a pick-six interception on a throw from Hurts. He has stood out in both OTA practices and is making a case to start at cornerback opposite Slay.
- Kelee Ringo displayed strong coverage on Parris Campbell and almost intercepted a pass from Hurts.
- Devin White deflected a pass to create an interception opportunity for Zack Baun, showcasing his skills in coverage for the second straight practice.
- Kenny Pickett had moments of success but also struggled with accuracy on certain throws, including an interception by Mekhi Garner.
- Bryce Huff appeared smaller than his listed size, possibly due to his jersey number.
- Punt returner reps were rotated among Britain Covey, Cooper DeJean, Isaiah Rodgers, and Ainias Smith.
- Cooper DeJean made a play by knocking down a pass intended for Covey.
- Jalyx Hunt showed skill in coverage while lined up in the slot.
- Johnny Wilson made a nice catch over the middle but also had a drop later in practice.
- E.J. Jenkins made a contested catch and has shown promise as a backup tight end.
- Tyrion Davis-Price struggled with a fumble last week and a dropped pass today.
- UDFA cornerback Shon Stephens ended practice with an interception.
- The practice fields at NovaCare Complex now feature a large monitor displaying live feeds and replays of practice.
UP NEXT: The Eagles will conclude their OTA practices on Friday, May 31, with a session closed to the media. Mandatory minicamp under Nick Sirianni will take place from June 4-6, and we will provide full coverage of those practices here at Bleeding Green Nation.
