The Colts fought through several injuries to defeat the Steelers and stay in contention for the AFC playoffs yesterday. Wide receiver Michael Pittman and running back Zack Moss both left the game early due to injuries and did not return.
Pittman was knocked out of the game with a concussion after a hit from Steelers safety Damontae Kazee, resulting in Kazee’s ejection. Without his main target, quarterback Gardner Minshew had to spread the ball to other players, completing passes to eight different teammates. Despite finding success, the team hopes for a quick recovery for Pittman, as he is targeted on nearly a third of the team’s pass attempts.
There was concern when Moss exited the game with an injury to the same arm that was previously broken earlier in the season. He left the game due to grip issues. With Jonathan Taylor mostly absent this season, Moss has become the team’s top rusher. Fortunately, X-rays showed no major damage to Moss’ arm, and he should be able to return next week.
Here are additional injury updates from the AFC this week:
- Joining fellow Bengals defender D.J. Reader, who was ruled out for the season, rookie cornerback D.J. Ivey left the game with a torn ACL, ending his season as well. The late-round pick from Miami (FL) was starting to earn more playing time before his injury.
- After Kazee’s ejection, the Steelers were left with two backups in the game when Minkah Fitzpatrick left the game with a knee injury. Another starter, Cameron Heyward, is in concussion protocol, raising doubts about his availability for Week 16.
- In today’s games, the Jets had to turn to Trevor Siemian after starting quarterback Zach Wilson left the game with a concussion. If Wilson cannot return, Siemian will likely start for New York against the Commanders.
