Following the recent signing of the quarterback they selected with the second overall pick, the Commanders have finalized contract negotiations for the remainder of their rookie draft class today. According to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post, Washington has inked second-round tight end Ben Sinnott and third-round offensive tackle Brandon Coleman to their rookie contracts, completing their rookie signings for this year.

Despite being projected for the fourth round, Sinnott exceeded expectations by being selected as the second tight end in the second round. This continues Sinnott’s trend of surpassing predictions as he initially walked on at Kansas State with only one FCS offer. Sinnott’s versatility is his key asset, as he excelled in various positions for the Wildcats and earned the NCAA’s Lowman Trophy as the top fullback in the nation while leading his team in receiving yards.

Coleman, on the other hand, was a three-year starter at TCU, showcasing his skills at both guard and tackle positions on the left side of the line. His standout performance in the 2022 season earned him second-team All-Big 12 honors after starting all 15 games at left tackle.

Moving forward, Coleman may face significant expectations in his rookie year, especially with the Commanders’ offensive line struggles in the past season. With veteran Zach Ertz now on the team, Coleman has an opportunity to learn from a seasoned tight end like Ertz and potentially serve as TE2 on the roster.

Below is a summary of the Commanders’ 2024 rookie draft class, including their recent signees:

  • Round 1, No. 2: Jayden Daniels (QB, LSU) (signed)
  • Round 2, No. 36: Jer’Zhan Newton (DT, Illinois) (signed)
  • Round 2, No. 50 (from Saints through Eagles): Mike Sainristil (CB, Michigan) (signed)
  • Round 2, No. 53 (from Eagles): Ben Sinnott (TE, Kansas State) (signed)
  • Round 3, No. 67: Brandon Coleman (OL, TCU) (signed)
  • Round 3, No. 100 (from 49ers): Luke McCaffrey (WR, Rice) (signed)
  • Round 5, No. 139: Jordan Magee (LB, Temple) (signed)
  • Round 5, No. 161 (from Buccaneers through Eagles): Dominique Hampton (S, Washington) (signed)
  • Round 7, No. 222: Javontae Jean-Baptiste (EDGE, Notre Dame) (signed)
