Fans poke fun at Jaguars’ attempted recovery of stolen $22 million from FanDuel employee

The Jacksonville Jaguars have not been having a great time recently.

They fumbled away a promising 8-3 start in 2023 and ultimately missed the playoffs after dropping five of their last six games, and they enter a crucial offseason with more questions than answers.

They are getting one answer, however, and that answer is “No.”

That rejection came from FanDuel after the team reportedly asked the sportsbook to help the Jags recuperate all or some of the more than $20 million that was lost on the site by a former employee who stole that money from the team.

FanDuel is not willing to pay, though, according to a report from ESPN.

Amit Patel, a former finance manager for the team, pleaded guilty in December to wire fraud and illegal monetary transactions stemming from the embezzlement of $22 million dollars from the team.

Patel, who lost about $20 million of those funds playing daily fantasy and placing sports bets with FanDuel under the anonymous name “ParlayPicker,” was called by an anonymous source “the biggest loser ever on FanDuel” and “legendarily bad,” according to ESPN.

It’s a ridiculous story, and it’s made even more ridiculous by Jacksonville’s (seemingly futile) attempts to recuperate the funds. Naturally, NFL fans had a lot of jokes.
