Drafting Shaquille Leonard has always been the priority for the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite a difficult game against the San Francisco 49ers, they were able to sign Leonard to a one-year deal, beating out the Dallas Cowboys for his services.
Leonard will immediately join the 53-man roster and participate in upcoming activities prior to the next game against the Cowboys. His preferred destination has always been Philadelphia due to his relationship with the coaching staff, and the team is confident in the player they are getting.
With injuries to other linebackers, Leonard’s addition to the team is especially crucial. His presence could make it difficult for opponents to throw in the middle of the field, which somewhat mirrors the strategy of a basketball 2-3 zone.
Defensive coordinator Sean Desai says that Leonard will be positioned on the weak side, playing alongside Cunningham and Morrow. Leonard’s experience and versatility make him a valuable asset to the team, and the Eagles are confident in getting him up to speed for the upcoming games.
Although the Eagles’ defense currently ranks poorly, they believe Leonard’s addition can enhance their performance and play a critical role in improving their defense.
