Eagles Training Camp Practice Notes: Dallas sucks but Goedert doesn’t – BGN
LINEBACKER TRAINING CAMP BATTLE: For the sixth day in a row, Devin White and Zack Baun were the first first-team linebackers in 11-on-11 (Nakobe Dean was originally in for Baun during an 11-on-11 look that was more of a warm-up activity than a normal full team series). Dean had a “sack” as a blitzer but he struggled in coverage, noticeably getting owned by Kenny Gainwell twice. The first rep involved Gainwell (figuratively) breaking Dean’s ankles after making a short catch and gaining more YAC than he should’ve gained had a sure tackle been made. The second rep involved Dean trailing well behind Gainwell on a wheel route for a touchdown. Dean just hasn’t been impressive in coverage.

NFL training camp 2024 live updates: Latest on roster battles – ESPN
Rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell has been very solid through the first week of camp. Tuesday’s session — which also marked the first time the Eagles were in full pads — was arguably his strongest. He had multiple battles with A.J. Brown and proved sticky in coverage, including on a red zone rep that forced Jalen Hurts to hold onto the ball. Later, he blanketed receiver Britain Covey near the corner of the end zone for several seconds as Kenny Pickett scrambled, and finished the play with a diving pass breakup. Mitchell is beginning to see more time with first team at nickel corner. He could make a push for a starting role by summer’s end.

Eagles star WR is ‘picking a fight’ with rookie CB who doesn’t get ‘fazed’: ‘He hasn’t backed down’ – NJ.com
The one-on-one battles between Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown and rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell at Tuesday’s practice were not arranged by the coaching staff. Brown asked Mitchell to face him because he’s been trying to find ways to make practice more interesting. “That’s me picking a fight with him, trying to get him going,” Brown told reporters on Thursday afternoon. “Like you said, he likes to talk trash at me…. But he’s not fazed…. He has been doing a great job. We’ve been battling in the one-on-ones.”

Why Eagles’ veterans expect Nick Sirianni to play starters in preseason games – NBCSP
Brandon Graham thinks new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, a veteran of two-a-days, will want his new group to get some game reps before the opener on Sept. 6 in Brazil against the Packers. “I think we’ll go back to the old school way,” B.G. said. “I think Vic is the type of guy that would just want to see us all in action first to kind of get us in rhythm with each other. Not saying that the old way was the bad way, but I think you probably will see us a couple couple drives. “(I don’t) know the plan yet, but I know just off what we know about Vic, he’s definitely probably going to want to see all of us together and make sure that we all get some reps up under us in real game-like situations.”

Cowboys sign veteran edge rushers Al-Quadin Muhammad and Shaka Toney – Blogging The Boys
The Dallas Cowboys got put into quite a bind when edge rusher Sam Williams was lost for the season with a torn ACL last week. The Cowboys did not sit on their hands with the situation and had several veteran pass rushers in for a workout, and on Thursday, they agreed to terms with Al-Quadin Muhammad and Shaka Toney.

John Mara ‘still happy’ Giants gave QB Daniel Jones $160M contract: ‘Let’s give him a chance’ – NFL.com
Despite the questions surrounding Jones entering a pivotal 2024 campaign, Big Blue co-owner John Mara said Thursday that he doesn’t regret extending the quarterback’s contract. “I’m still happy we gave (Jones) that contract because I thought he played really well for us in ‘22,” Mara said, via the team’s official website. “Last year, he got hurt and let’s be honest, when he was playing, we weren’t blocking anybody. So, let’s give him a chance with a better offensive line with some weapons around him to see what he can do.”

New York Giants training camp: Takeaways from Thursday’s practice – Big Blue View
The highlight of the practice was a double-move by Malik Nabers against Cor’Dale Flott that went fora touchdown. As The Record’s Art Stapleton pointed out above, Nabers received praise from Jones and Shea Tierney for a block he threw on a Wan’Dale Robinson screen. There were several screen passes thrown in today’s practice, some more creative than others; more on that in the notes.

Dan Quinn Presser: Andrew Wylie is only working at tackle, we’ve got some other guys working inside – Hogs Haven
The Washington Commanders are heading to the practice fields for the eighth day of training camp. The team started one on ones yesterday, and will be doing them again today, but Quinn said he told his coaching staff to mix it up with the matchups more today. Rookie LT Brandon Coleman stood out on the offensive line, and he said its hard to believe that Sam Cosmi has only been playing guard for a few years. He also name-checked Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne, and Johnny Newton on the defensive line. Rookie slot CB Mike Sainristil continues to get praise from Quinn, saying he’s “consistently strong” at the position.

Watch the first NFL kickoff under the new XFL rules – SB Nation
If you happened to miss Texans vs. Bears in the NFL Hall of Fame Game we won’t blame you. Caleb Williams wasn’t playing, the Olympic games were on, and there are quite literally thousands of other things you could be doing that are a better use of your time than preseason footaball. That said, if you missed the game you also missed the first time the league has used the new kickoff rules in a game. Borrowed from the XFL, the new kickoff is wild to see in practice.
