Eagles’ Haason Reddick Reportedly Seeking Contract Comparable to Garrett’s

It is uncertain times in Philadelphia as the Eagles’ top pass rusher, Haason Reddick, could be on the move. With the 29-year-old coming up on the final season of the three-year contract that he signed in 2022, he has reportedly been placed on the trade block despite denying that he asked to be traded. The Eagles have permitted him to speak with other teams.

However, the permission from the Eagles didn’t come due to a request from Reddick. A new report from NFL analyst Cam Marino states that Philadelphia may be unwilling to meet the value that Reddick has commanded for an extension.

“Eagles OLB Haason Reddick doesn’t want to leave [Philadelphia], but thinks he’s underpaid,” Marino writes. “Reddick’s camp is asking for a whopping $25M annually. “He wants Bosa/Garrett money.”

Frankly, it doesn’t take a source to know that Reddick doesn’t want to leave the Eagles. Reddick told Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz that much on Tuesday when the news broke.

“I would like to get an extension done here at home,” Reddick said. “At no point did I ever tell the organization I want to be traded.”

Philadelphia Eagles’ Howie Roseman stands by team’s approach to the linebacker position

With Reddick currently set to make $14.25 million in 2024, the jump to $25 million would be pretty steep for the Eagles. Since arriving in Philadelphia, Reddick has established himself as one of the NFL’s best edge rushers, as he has joined Myles Garrett as the only other pass-rusher to accumulate four consecutive double-digit sack seasons.

While the Eagles are already shopping the 29-year-old, it doesn’t mean he is truly out the door. A similar situation occurred last offseason with cornerback Darius Slay, who, after being told he would be traded as they couldn’t come to terms on a contract extension, was going to be released. However, that release never came, and the Eagles granted him a two-year contract extension.

Could this be just another case of hardball from general manager Howie Roseman? Absolutely, but it isn’t the most cautious approach. Even after missing part of training camp with a thumb injury, Reddick played in all 17 games and led the Eagles in sacks with 11 this past season, taking his total up to 27 in the last two years.

Plenty of teams around the league need edge rushers, and Reddick could be that for them. As for the $25 million price tag, it seems if the Eagles are to keep him, it wouldn’t be for that much money considering their current cap situation.

Could even $20 million be too much for the Eagles, who just spent last year’s first-round pick on Georgia’s Nolan Smith?
