Heading into the wild-card game in Kansas City, the Dolphins had to make emergency free agent pickups to beef up their edge-rushing unit. With Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips still rehabbing, Miami used their first-round pick to add depth to this position.
After losing Andrew Van Ginkel in free agency, the Dolphins selected Chop Robinson with the 21st overall pick. Robinson will be an immediate reinforcement for the Dolphins and will have a key role in the defense while Chubb and Phillips recover.
Robinson signed his rookie deal recently, which is valued at $14.98MM and runs through 2027 with a fifth-year option, all guaranteed.
Impressing at the Combine, Robinson is expected to be a significant contributor behind Chubb and Phillips when they return to full strength. With Chubb possibly on the reserve/PUP list due to previous injuries, Robinson will play a crucial role early in the season.
Coming off a strong campaign at Penn State, Robinson showcased his skills with a 4.49-second 40-yard dash, earning himself a spot in the first round of the draft. With a stacked defensive lineup, the Dolphins look forward to having a formidable edge-rushing unit once Chubb and Phillips are back to full health.
In addition to Phillips and Chubb, the Dolphins have a promising draft class for 2024 which includes talented players like Patrick Paul, Jaylen Wright, Mohamed Kamara, Malik Washington, Patrick McMorris, and Tahj Washington.
