Davante Adams has been in the center of trade rumors during the offseason, but he and his agents have tried to dispel further speculation. Recent updates have shed more light on the All-Pro Raiders wide receiver, including his arrival in Las Vegas and his thoughts on potentially being traded to a third team in his career.
During his appearance on Keyshawn Johnson’s All Facts No Brakes podcast, Adams discussed his exit from the Packers and how he had approached the Green Bay front office for a contract extension in the 2022 offseason. Despite uncertainty surrounding Aaron Rodgers’ future with the team, Adams was willing to sign a long-term deal.
Adams mentioned that he was offered an average of $17MM per season, which was below the market value for top wide receivers in the league. He declined the offer and was eventually traded to the Raiders in March, reuniting with his former college teammate Derek Carr.
Adams confirmed in an episode of Netflix’s Receiver series that Carr’s presence was a significant factor in his decision to play for the Raiders. However, Carr only stayed in Vegas for the 2022 season before being released and joining the Saints in free agency. Adams supported Carr during his time with the Raiders and connected his future with the organization to Carr’s performance.
While the Raiders have stated that they are not considering trading Adams at this time, Rodgers’ recent comments about reuniting with him have sparked speculation. Adams expressed his commitment to Vegas but also acknowledged the possibility of being traded out of Sin City. He mentioned that he would welcome the opportunity to play with Rodgers again if a trade were to happen.
“I’m focused on the Raiders, and I believe in this team, but if things change and they no longer feel the same way about me, I’m not ready to retire, so we will figure things out,” Adams said on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay podcast (video link).
Adams also mentioned his willingness to reunite with Rodgers if given the chance, even considering playing for the Jets in the future. Although he has three years left on his contract, adjustments may be necessary after the 2024 season due to his projected cap hits and the lack of guaranteed salaries in 2025 and ’26. As of now, he is preparing for his third season with the Raiders.
