After wrapping up minicamp, the focus leading up to Cowboys’ training camp will be on negotiations for extensions for Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons. Parsons is already under contract for two more years, so the urgency isn’t as high for him this summer.
Prescott is a key figure for the Cowboys beyond the 2024 season, with a hefty cap hit of $55.13MM. With clauses in his contract giving him leverage, negotiations are expected to be on the table soon. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Cowboys are preparing a strong offer to keep Prescott on board.
It comes as no surprise that Prescott is the priority for extensions, especially with Lamb and Parsons also in line. The Cowboys aim to secure Prescott’s deal before moving on to Lamb and Parsons, given their respective cap situations and market positions.
Prescott could potentially set a new standard for quarterback salaries with his next contract, exceeding the likes of Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence at $55MM annually. While Prescott is focused on factors beyond finances, how negotiations proceed will be crucial. The Cowboys have yet to dive deep into extension talks with Prescott.
While negotiations with Prescott are pending, Lamb is waiting for his own discussions to begin. Lamb has seen Justin Jefferson reset the receiver market with a $35MM-per-year deal and will likely seek similar value. Once Prescott’s deal is finalized, Lamb will have a strong negotiating position based on recent receiver contracts.
Any new contracts for Prescott or Lamb will also factor in Parsons’ future. With Parsons under contract through 2025, his aim is to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league. Dallas’s ability to meet this goal will depend on the progress made with Prescott and Lamb, in that order, in the near future.
