Christian Kirk, who was already expected to miss multiple weeks, will now be out for an extended period. Head coach Doug Pederson announced on Friday that the veteran wide receiver will be placed on injured reserve (via Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network). The team has since confirmed the move.
Kirk will undergo core muscle surgery, which will require him to be out for at least four weeks. The Jaguars will be missing a significant part of their offense during this time period.
He leads Jacksonville in receiving yards (787) and receptions (57) this season. The recovery process could keep him out for up to eight weeks, potentially ending his season. However, a quicker return could see him back for the team’s regular season finale.
Kirk’s absence will be a major loss for an offense that has struggled with consistency. His presence has been a vital part of the team’s passing attack. The addition of Calvin Ridley via trade will help offset Kirk’s absence, though the team will need others to step up in his place.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence also potentially might miss time due to a high ankle sprain, further complicating the team’s offensive situation.
