Breaking Down the Eagles-Giants Game: Identifying the Positives and Addressing the Struggle Against the Blitz

The Eagles came out on top in their latest game, and I’m excited to share my thoughts on their offensive performance. Overall, I believe the Eagles performed well on offense, but there are still some areas that need improvement. Let’s take a closer look at the game.

First, I’m thrilled to see the Eagles commit to the run game. In recent weeks, I’ve been calling for the team to emphasize the running game, and it seems like they’ve finally taken that direction. There are signs of progress, especially with Jalen Hurts appearing healthy and playing a significant role in the run game. The Eagles opened the game with a play that I particularly like, the GT Counter Bash, and they ran about seven variations of the counter in this game. The running game had a similar look to last year’s, which was fantastic to witness.

In addition, I was pleased to see the Eagles incorporate play-action throws from under center in 12 personnel, particularly with intermediate routes to Dallas Goedert. This is something I’ve been advocating for throughout the season, and I hope the team continues to implement this strategy. Jalen Hurts has shown remarkable skill in throwing deep-out routes, and this play-action approach complements Dallas Goedert’s strengths as a route runner.

Furthermore, the Eagles used choice routes in this game, primarily with DeVonta Smith, and it was evident that he and Hurts were on the same page. Choice routes can be difficult to execute, but when done well, they can be effective. I also appreciated the use of choice routes with the slot receiver lined up next to AJ Brown, which seemed deliberate to counter defensive strategies.

However, one area of concern for the Eagles’ offense is their response to blitzes. The team consistently threw away from pressure, leaving Jalen Hurts vulnerable to hits and potential injuries. It’s essential for the Eagles to develop a more effective plan against pressure and adjust their play calls accordingly.

Despite the challenges with handling blitzes, the Eagles’ execution of the GT Counter Bash play and their success with choice routes were particularly encouraging. The team’s offensive line displayed excellent execution in these plays, and I hope they continue to build on these strategies.

Overall, the Eagles’ offensive performance had its bright spots and areas for improvement. As the season progresses, addressing the response to pressure will be crucial for the team’s success. Nonetheless, the team’s commitment to the run game and their execution of certain plays are positive indicators for future games. I look forward to seeing how the Eagles continue to evolve and adapt their offensive strategy throughout the season.
