With Lamar Jackson’s extension secured, the Ravens came into the 2023 season with high hopes. They captured the AFC’s No. 1 seed and Jackson himself claimed the MVP award for the second time since becoming a full-time starter. Unfortunately, their season ended disappointingly with a home loss to the Chiefs in the AFC title game. After that defeat, the Ravens saw a number of significant departures across all levels of the organization. As a result, changes on the field, on the sidelines, and in the front office have left Baltimore reliant on several new faces for the upcoming 2024 season.
Many key members of the team remain, making the Ravens contenders in the AFC North and beyond. Moses was considered a potential cut candidate, leading to his departure for New York in exchange for draft capital. Baltimore saved $5.5MM in salary with this move, although questions remain about their right tackle situation during training camp. Moses has been durable throughout his career, missing only three games in 2023, and is expected to provide solid play for the Jets.
In free agency, the Ravens made several additions, notably signing Derrick Henry to a two-year, $16MM deal. Henry, the league’s leading rusher in recent years, was a target of trade interest before ultimately joining the Ravens. Additionally, Eddie Jackson, Chris Board, Deonte Harty, Josh Jones, Keith Kirkwood, Deadrin Senat, Josh Tupou, and Ka’dar Hollman were added to reinforce the team in various positions.
Re-signings include Kyle Van Noy, Nelson Agholor, Malik Harrison, Josh Johnson, Arthur Maulet, Brent Urban, Daryl Worley, and Ar’Darius Washington. Van Noy and Agholor, who had strong seasons in 2023, were key priorities for the Ravens to retain. Van Noy, in particular, has been consistent in getting sacks and will play an important role on the team. Agholor, on the other hand, will continue to be a rotational receiver alongside Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman. Jackson and Maulet are also expected to contribute significantly in their respective positions.
Overall, the Ravens have made moves to address key areas of their roster and remain competitive in the AFC North as they head into the 2024 season.
