SEPTEMBER 8: Reports suggest that Tom Brady’s ownership stake in the Raiders may soon be approved. Mark Maske of the Washington Post mentioned that the matter could be voted on at the next owners meeting in October, with Ian Rapoport of NFL.com sharing a similar view this morning.
Rapoport also mentioned the possibility of the vote being delayed to the December labor seminar and Special League Meeting. However, it is expected that Brady will receive approval as a minority owner in 2024.
AUGUST 31: In 2024, Tom Brady will begin his broadcasting career as FOX’s lead color commentator. This announcement has raised questions due to his pending acquisition of a minority stake in the Raiders.

In May last year, Brady reached an agreement to become one of the owners of the Raiders alongside Mark Davis. However, the NFL has yet to approve this deal. While the purchase price is no longer a point of contention, concerns regarding a potential conflict of interest among other owners persist. To address this, Brady will have unique restrictions placed on his broadcasting activities.
The NFL announced that Brady will not be permitted to visit other teams’ facilities or participate in production meetings preceding the games he commentates on. This measure aims to prevent Brady from using his position to benefit the Raiders unfairly.
Despite not being officially an owner yet, Brady will be subject to the league’s gambling and tampering policies immediately. As part of his $375 million deal with FOX, Brady will call Raiders games and must adhere to the league rules prohibiting public criticism of officials and other teams.
Unlike other FOX staff members, Brady will face specific restrictions due to his dual roles. Greg Olsen’s experience with FOX as a broadcaster player highlights the precedent for such limitations. Olsen initially worked as a color commentator while playing for the Panthers before transitioning to full-time broadcasting. Brady will replace Olsen as Kevin Burkhart’s partner this season.
The approval timeline for Brady’s ownership deal remains uncertain, pending review by the NFL’s finance committee. Once the proposal goes to a vote among all owners, at least 24 out of 32 must approve for Brady to officially join the ownership group. The league’s imposition of broadcasting restrictions could indicate that approval may come in 2024.
