Hard Knocks has reached a point where it no longer offers any unique insight into the NFL teams it follows. Each season presents the same challenges with slightly different characters. Players get cut, coaches make tough decisions, and quirky personalities become local favorites, all in a repetitive cycle.

To keep things fresh, the league has introduced new twists to the formula. In 2021, they added a second version of the show that follows a team mid-season rather than just during the preseason. However, this novelty quickly wore off, prompting the league and its broadcast partners to come up with a new approach.

Enter an in-season version of Hard Knocks that promises to delve deeper into the inner workings of an NFL franchise by featuring an entire division for the first time ever. The AFC North edition, premiering on December 3 on StreamOnMax, will follow the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals, Baltimore Ravens, and Cleveland Browns as they gear up for a playoff push in the league’s toughest division.

With this being the third iteration of Hard Knocks in 2024, viewers will have multiple opportunities to witness clichés about taking the season one game at a time and see if practice squad players seize their chance at the big time. While a four-team Hard Knocks may not offer much new information about the NFL, it will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the AFC North teams, such as the Browns’ frustration with Deshaun Watson and the Steelers defense’s exhaustion after consecutive 9-7 victories.

The NFL seems determined to maximize its profitability by offering an abundance of content to fans. If Hard Knocks: In Season with the AFC North proves to be a hit, we may soon see camera crews in every locker room throughout the 21-week season, capturing the drama of international games and star players’ reactions to injuries during intense matchups.

This trend is not the fault of Hard Knocks: In Season with the AFC North, but rather a reflection of the league’s relentless pursuit of monetizing every aspect of its content until players and fans are completely worn out.
