As the deadline for restricted free agents to sign their tenders approaches, the 49ers and Jauan Jennings are transitioning to a new phase in their contract negotiations. The RFA process has concluded with an extension agreement reached on Wednesday.
According to ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter, San Francisco’s No. 3 wide receiver has agreed to a two-year deal worth up to $15.4MM, with $10.5MM guaranteed. This represents a one-year increase for Jennings, who was initially tied to the 49ers through a second-round RFA tender for 2024. The team has officially announced the signing.

Given the uncertain futures of Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, securing Jennings on this deal could play a crucial role in the 49ers’ post-2024 plans, especially after the first-round selection of Ricky Pearsall. This ensures a key player remains with the team beyond this season, particularly with ongoing rumors surrounding the futures of Aiyuk and Samuel. With Jennings now locked in on a modest deal, it provides stability for the team moving forward.
A former seventh-round pick, Jennings has made significant contributions to the 49ers. He played a pivotal role in crucial moments such as catching two touchdown passes from Jimmy Garoppolo in a 2021 game against the Rams and making key plays in Super Bowl LVIII. Known for his versatility as a high school quarterback, Jennings has adapted well to various roles within the team.
Jennings, 26, is also highly regarded for his role in the 49ers’ ground attack, being rated as one of the league’s top run-blocking wide receivers by Pro Football Focus. Despite not starting regularly, he has been a consistent contributor to the team’s success. In the 2022 season, Jennings played 489 offensive snaps and 361 in the previous season, with solid receiving stats to complement his blocking skills.
As the 49ers navigate the futures of Aiyuk and Samuel, they currently boast a strong receiving corps. With Pearsall’s development and the established duo of Aiyuk and Samuel, Jennings remains a key piece of the puzzle for the defending NFC champions.
