Justin Jefferson has been in the news for contract rumors, while CeeDee Lamb is facing holdout threats. However, the focus has shifted to Brandon Aiyuk, who has been making headlines in the offseason with frequent discussions about his future with the 49ers.

Aiyuk recently met with 49ers management where it was confirmed that the team does see him as part of their future plans. Despite some initial doubts, Aiyuk expressed his commitment to staying with the team, much like Tee Higgins did earlier.

Despite the positive meeting, there has been no progress on a contract extension for Aiyuk. Talks have stalled post-meeting, leading to Aiyuk skipping OTAs and incurring fines for missing minicamp.

Aiyuk’s camp is using Amon-Ra St. Brown‘s contract as a reference point for negotiations, aiming for a deal similar to Jefferson’s record-breaking contract. However, with Aiyuk’s performance not matching up to Jefferson’s and St. Brown putting up better numbers, the extension talks have hit a roadblock.

While no trade requests have been made, a potential holdout during training camp could be on the horizon for Aiyuk. The 49ers would have the option to waive fines for missed days, similar to what they did for Nick Bosa. Aiyuk’s fifth-year option salary is $14.12MM.

The 49ers are keen on keeping Aiyuk long-term, especially with cap constraints looming in the future. They are looking to extend him but may not meet his demands in terms of guarantees and average annual value. The team is also planning to retain both Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel for this season.
